“My hope is that by opening up a little about my life and NDE, others will discover the empowering tools of tolerance, open-mindedness, love and lose fear of this world: life and death.” Time to Believe: A Life and a Near-Death Experience is a real account of author T.J. Owen’s near-death experience (NDE). It is also about her life before the NDE and events that resulted from the NDE. It is an emotional journey. T.J.’s marriage in its early years with her husband Kris was a rocky one. Kris’s severe nervous breakdown and mood swings exhausted her. She struggled to maintain balance and make the right decisions. Unfortunately, frustration, anger and sadness were her dominant sentiments. Her NDE occurred during the difficult birth of her son and it was a pivotal point where T.J. gained knowledge and strength to prevail during hard times.

On the whole, the book could be more polished, but it is a trivial detail compared to what the book is all about. Her narration is honest, simple and poignant yet inspiring. Her courage is evident and resonates on every page of the book. Despite the title, Time to Believe is not religiously dogmatic but simply spiritual. NDE is a fascinating subject widely debated by certain groups; in terms of various physiological and psychological factors as well as advocated transcendental explanation. No matter which group you belong to, this is a real account of an ordinary woman with important life lessons. And that, for me, is the ultimate take away message.
