Under the Mimosa Tree by S.R. Lewis follows the story of Elizabeth, the matriarch of a family who carries a secret she is determined to share with her beloved daughter, Rose, and her granddaughter, Candace, before she dies. With the help of her friend, Father Joe, Elizabeth chose to reveal this long-buried truth through clues and letters. Despite the unbelievably sad and difficult time for their family, Rose and Candace honored their matriarch’s wishes. As they piece the clues together, they get to know Elizabeth better and understand her distance through the years. By the end of their journey, Rose and Candace discover something precious that brings healing and joy to their family.

Under the Mimosa Tree is a heart-warming story. I was intrigued by how Elizabeth chose to reveal her secret to Rose and Candace. This novel also reminded me that everyone grieves differently, especially at a young age. I found myself relating to Candace’s character and was impressed by her and Rose’s strength. This story also showed me the importance of having support from friends and neighbors during a difficult time. I loved Father Joe’s character and how he made sure Elizabeth’s wish would be fulfilled. Sarah and Sammy are very intriguing, too. This story has a comforting pace while surprising me with twists and revelations about Elizabeth’s life. I was very curious about the significance of the color pink, as it is also my favorite color, and I was not disappointed at how it was revealed. The conclusion was very satisfying. All in all, this was a great read.
