Life is full of twists and turns, ups and downs. How do we manage unexpectedly anxious moments? Unexpected Aldars is written by a group of authors called Oakland Community's Unexpected Altars. One of the many contributing authors, Brian Greenfield, writes comparatively about how life is a journey that resembles a roller coaster. How does God help us maneuver all these unexpected incidents? Perhaps, as this author suggests, God’s sense of humor is evident in that He will merely tell us to raise our hands and enjoy the ride. Another contributor, Kristen Marshall, writes about her daily calendar. While studying this calendar, she noticed several blank days on which nothing was scheduled. It made her think about how God might want her to fill the days, perhaps quite simply by opening her heart and being at peace with whatever was meant to happen.

Unexpected Altars: Meeting God in Everyday Moments, is an inspirational read for those seeking to understand, accept, and welcome God into every aspect of their lives, including even the seemingly simplest moments, such as studying their daily calendars. Through these readings, some of which are short stories and memoirs, readers will learn to listen to God’s Word and to realize that none of us is an insignificant member of His family. God is with us, communicating with us, at all times. The book is laid out thematically to allow readers to choose whether to read sequentially or to pick various entries at random to suit their mood. Each entry begins with references to Scripture and is followed by a dissertation on the thoughts that permeate the author’s mind, with ideas from their own personal experiences. The entry continues with challenging questions to make readers think about what God might want us to do, as if we were discussing with Him. It concludes with a prayer, specifically addressing the theme of the entry. This is an excellent resource to guide us through our lives with God at our sides.
