When My World Changed by Kaylynn Mower is a true story. She shares how she left Russia when she was adopted by an American couple and how this changed her life. She wrote this book to show her appreciation for her parents and everyone who changed her life and brought some much-needed love into it. Something very interesting about this book is that there are no words. The story is narrated through drawings. So, this will be a good choice for anyone who prefers looking at pictures and drawings, especially early readers. Kaylynn was adopted when she was eight years old, and she was introduced to a new way of life, which involved eating out, nature exploration, birthday parties, family gatherings, and holidays that became festive and special.
I appreciated how easy it is to follow the story, even without words. However, since it is a children’s book, I believe it would be helpful if an adult is close by to explain the story and answer any questions they may have. I found the color scheme attractive and liked how sharp the drawings were. It is a heartwarming story that shows how much being brought into a loving home can mean to a child and transform that child’s life. It was also lovely to see that she made some nice friends who made her feel welcome after such a big move to a different continent. When My World Changed by Kaylynn Mower is a sweet story of gratitude from a child who had her world illuminated when she was adopted.
