When the Time is Right by Kim Cano is a story about Dr. Michelle Catalano, who lives a comfortable life providing in-home animal euthanasia services. She misses her own deceased cat, Blackjack, and when a pet medium tells her Blackjack will return to her when the time is right, Michelle isn’t sure she believes but is still hopeful. When Michelle’s twin sister, Paige, is murdered in her own kitchen, Michelle, her mother, and brother-in-law are devastated. They are perplexed as to why anyone would harm Paige. As the case evolves, their lives become frayed, and Michelle receives comfort from the lead detective in the case, as well as an unexpected love from her past… Blackjack. As the clues stack up and the murderer is apprehended, readers will eagerly turn the pages to find out what happens next. They will not be disappointed.
What I liked about When the Time is Right by Kim Cano is finding out that Kim Cano had a twelve-year-old cat named Blackjack who crossed the Rainbow Bridge before she wrote this book, so she knows firsthand what it feels like to lose a beloved pet. Kim Cano’s loss crosses over to her character, Michelle, which makes this character so real for me. The suspense and investigation in the story are page-turning, and Kim Cano did a great job of making me shed a tear for the family’s grief as well as making me grin and cheer for the family’s endurance, tenacity, and finally, closure. When the Time is Right is a great story for suspense lovers as well as pet lovers.
