Wind That Blows From Nowhere is the first book in the Elemental Mage Pentalogy series by Zoiy Galloay. After Cers, a high-level official in the Wolkarian Society, betrays the parents of Alisio Skylor, a young Air Mage, she has no choice but to defend herself on her own. The Society wants dominion over all four elemental races and uses clandestine tactics and powerful propaganda to sway the masses. However, Prince Eskolaite Bhumi (Esko), the Earthling heir, discovers their plans and works toward stopping them, inadvertently putting his own life in danger. Alisio sees the threat to Esko's life and saves him three times. Soon, the two develop feelings for each other. But Esko is bound by royal duties and Alisio's commoner background makes a possible match improbable. What's next in store for Esko and Alisio?
Filled with magic, action, romance, and political intrigue, Wind That Blows From Nowhere is a brilliant start to what promises to be an enthralling fantasy saga. Author Zoiy Galloay has built an immersive fantasy world that might remind readers of Avatar: The Last Airbender. But the story and themes are completely different. Galloay draws from real-world politics and, using a captivating narrative, shows how political factions manipulate news and events to run their own stories and acquire power. The plot is well-paced and keeps you engrossed all the way through. The cast of characters is large, but everyone has their own agency and story arcs within an intricately crafted narrative. The book ends on a cliffhanger, which I believe will be resolved in the sequel. It's an absorbing tale of magic and romance that I highly recommend to fantasy lovers.
