There are many types of garden insects, flying, crawling, and of course the ooey-gooey ones. You're Not Invited: An Ooey-Gooeys Adventure by Sylvia Rouss and David Titcher introduces us to three Ooey-Gooey friends, Shelly Snail, Willy Worm, and Speedy Centipede. Queen Bee is having a rollicking party when she spots the three Ooey-Gooeys. She informs them they are not welcome at her party. Undeterred, the three friends join anyway when suddenly the party is interrupted by a giant ground-churning monster and its bigfoot (human) companion. Chaos ensues as all the insects scramble out of the way. Queen Bee is frozen, but thanks to Speedy's quick thinking, he devises a plan to save her from the monster. What will happen to their garden home? Will the Ooey-Gooeys find a way to save the day?
You're Not Invited introduces three distinct characters in Speedy, Willy, and Shelly. They support each other and utilize their unique talents. Even young kids experience the hurt and frustration of being excluded. Sylvia Rouss and David Titcher skillfully convey that no matter how you are treated, you should stay true to your values. The illustrations by Rick Penn-Kraus are splendid. The three main characters have distinctive features with Shelly's red lipstick, Willy's big glasses, and Speedy's 50 pairs of red shoes. The pictures are filled with action and different perspectives. Ingenuity and teamwork are highlighted throughout the story as the insects work to ensure they are all safe. You're Not Invited: An Ooey-Gooey Adventure is a clever, bug-filled backyard escapade.
