Author Biography

JENNIFER A. DOUGLAS IS a writer and breast cancer patient advocate. A routine annual mammogram in 2019 revealed her breast cancer at stage zero and upended her daily homemaking and virtual schooling routines. Instead of organizing the lessons for the day, she found herself researching the many treatment decisions before her. She quickly learned that stage zero breast cancer doesn’t mean zero challenges.

After the end of treatment, she felt called to encourage other patients through her writing and social media presence. Her patient advocacy efforts focus on the challenges facing early-stage breast cancer patients during their diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Her advocacy and encouraging voice is a welcomed addition to the breast cancer community. She was named a 2022 Breast Cancer Awareness Month influencer by the Susan Love Foundation. She has hosted episodes of “Breast Practices,” as a part of MOLLI Surgical’s H.O.P.E. program, which encourages breast cancer patients and their families during their journeys.

In addition to partnering with foundations and industry, and writing regularly on her blog, Jennifer is also active encouraging breast cancer patients in her local community.

When she isn’t advocating and encouraging others in her Southern California breast cancer community, she enjoys reading, drinking coffee, speaking French, and walking with her husband and their beagles.
Jennifer can be found on her website, https://jennifer adouglas.com, and on social media, @mmejendouglas. A Breast Cancer Journey: Living it One Step at a Time is her debut book

A Breast Cancer Journey: Living It One Step at a Time is a work of non-fiction in the health issues, social issues, and personal memoir subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience owing to some explicit medical descriptions and a candid discussion of sex and personal relationships. Penned by author Jennifer A Douglas, this heartfelt and beautifully honest work documents the author’s struggle with breast cancer from a stage zero diagnosis and the unexpected hardships, diagnostic trials, and difficulties she encountered. It also features the tales of other breast cancer patients at various stages of their treatment whom she encountered on her journey.

Author Jennifer A Douglas has crafted a fascinating and informative insight into the world of modern breast cancer, a field we often consider so advanced that it might not seem like a ‘problem’ anymore. But this is far from the case, and the complexities of the healthcare world are well explained in Douglas’s tender and honest recollection of her own experiences and those of others. One of the things I enjoyed most about the work was the narrative skill of the author, which makes it feel as though you’re sitting down for a coffee with a wise friend who is willing to share her heart with you. In doing so, the work becomes a really accessible read that would serve well as a support book for friends and family surrounding cancer patients as well as the patients themselves. Overall, A Breast Cancer Journey is an excellent read and one that those who need it are very likely to treasure and benefit from immensely.

Terminal disease patients who fight their illness daily must be applauded since their stories give strength and courage to other patients going through the same experience. A Breast Cancer Journey by Jennifer A. Douglas is based on a true story that offers hope, strength, and encouragement to patients diagnosed with cancer. Jennifer Douglas was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of forty-two. Although overwhelmed and frightened, she courageously underwent multiple imaging procedures, biopsies, and lumpectomy surgery, clearing all her tumors. Although she had episodes of frustration, anger, and helplessness between appointments, procedures, and surgery, she could communicate her emotions and feelings and lived happily after accepting her truth and scars.

Jennifer A. Douglas writes a book to guide and answer most cancer patients' questions. She does so through her extensive research, personal experience, and inquisitive nature, which did not prevent her from asking questions concerning her diagnosis and treatments. Jennifer discusses the most important topics, which most patients regard as the least important. For example, she discusses finances, as cancer treatment is very expensive. She also talks about primary caregivers after surgery, how to break the news to family and friends, and the types of treatment available. Douglas discloses her journey and includes other women’s stories to assure anyone recovering from cancer that they are not alone and that they, too, can come out stronger. These other women’s stories also disclose that people heal differently and react differently. A Breast Cancer Journey is an informative book I recommend to those undergoing cancer treatments since it will equip you with essential tips and insights on living through the pain as you focus on complete recovery.

A Breast Cancer Journey: Living It One Step at a Time by Jennifer A Douglas is a medical health memoir that would appeal most to adults who are dealing with or expect to deal with breast cancer in some form during their lives. The author shares her own experiences during her journey of handling her cancer diagnosis of DCIS stage zero breast cancer, along with the experiences of other women with a similar condition. The book is an informative resource as it seeks to answer the numerous important questions that a person with a breast cancer diagnosis needs to have clarified. Whether you are someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or are a family member or friend of someone who has, this book will help you learn what you need to be prepared for what lies ahead of you.

A Breast Cancer Journey by Jennifer A Douglas is a well-written book that has a good balance between personal stories and informative answers. I recently found out that I have the BRCA1 gene which makes breast cancer highly likely in my future and I have to say I found this book to be a treasure trove of knowledge. The author did an amazing job explaining medical procedures in simple language without medical jargon. I found this book to be a simply invaluable resource as it is filled with information that was easily understandable and I found that reading about the experiences of other people and how they coped with their condition helped me emotionally.
