Water is a very important part of our lives. It’s here one minute and disappears mysteriously in the next minute. In Milagros Wallace’s Gregorina and Her Glass of Water, a young girl, Gregorina, learns the importance and growing mystery of water. She also learns it bilingually, in English and in Spanish. Gregorina learns that pouring water into a hole in the sand causes it to disappear through the grains of sand. She learns how a storm comes quickly and covers the land with much-needed water, and in the higher altitudes, in the mountains, the water quickly freezes and becomes ice. She learns how water cleans and refreshes the landscape and so much more. Water is essential to the life of every living creature on this planet.

Milagros Wallace’s picture book, Gregorina and Her Glass of Water, is a charming, bilingual story that will inspire and educate young people interested in what matters in their lives and in the world around them. Told lyrically in rhyming verse, this little treasure explores the many possibilities of water and why it’s so important to us. With bright, bold, and colorful illustrations by Alynor Diaz, this story makes for an engaging and interactive read. As well as teaching in two languages (children can learn both languages as the stanzas are paired side by side), children will learn about ecology, water conservation, sustainability, and so much more. At the end of the book are exercises in both languages to help young readers further their learning. Overall, this is a fascinating story for young readers.
