A Cabin in the Woods by Marek Záhorec will amaze its readers as Damian Noble writes his next bestseller. He experiences writer’s block when his muse leaves him, his wife Dana. Taking a trip to the cabin his father owned when he was a kid, Damian finds a new muse with complications. He creates Adam and Amanda Sober, and Adam begins his horrific story. The narrative rotates between Damian’s life and his fictitious character, Adam, until one day they meet. The meeting at the cabin in the woods is a significant experience for both men, but will only one remain? What about the man who has been stalking Damian since he left the hotel to write in the cabin? Could it have been Adam this whole time?
Marek Záhorec’s niche is thrillers with an unforeseen twist. A Cabin in the Woods is a psychological thriller that enters the mind of his characters, but even the mind does not perceive what is right before it. There is significant drama between Damian trying to write again while being stalked by a stranger and Adam trying to get his family together again. As the characters develop, they make decisions that have enormous effects on the next stage in their progress. This keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Overall, it is difficult to explain how incredible this novel is without giving out spoilers. The complexity of the plot unfolds into a legendary conclusion that I would never have seen coming. I loved this journey to its colossal ending.
