What Did Libby Do? A Veterinary Tale of Mischief and Mishaps is a remarkable book for children that continues The Critter Care Crew series. Written by Dr. Gal Chivvis, an emergency veterinarian and author, the book is illustrated, edited, and designed by the talented Andi Ketch. In its easy-to-comprehend, memorable rhyme supported by colorful illustrations, the book introduces us to the mischievous puppy named Libby Lu. Libby Lu has loving and caring owners. But, being a puppy, she explores everything, often makes a mess, and gets into trouble. More often than not, Libby Lu gets away with her mischief. But once she makes a very bad mistake that lands her at the vets. What happened to Libby Lu? And will the vets rescue her?

What an adorable book! What Did Libby Do? impressed me greatly on all counts. I liked how Dr. Gal Chivvis introduced the puppy health risks, symptoms, and actions required of the puppy carers. I also appreciated how the book told this intriguing, entertaining, and educational story in a child-friendly, gentle, and memorable way. The illustrations were awesome and told their own story in addition to illustrating the rhymes. The design was particularly praiseworthy, with large, distinct fonts and highlighted keywords. As a dog owner and a granny, I can’t wait to read this book to my toddler grandson and discuss Libby’s mistakes and the story’s plentiful takeaways. I highly recommend this lovely story to children, their parents, teachers, and all adults who are first-time puppy owners to keep them on their toes!

Do pets make mistakes? In What Did Libby Do? by Dr. Gal Chivvis, a little puppy makes a bad choice. Libby is curious and doesn't always think before she acts. Her family does their best to show her right from wrong. But she's still young and learning. One day, her loved ones leave her at home alone. She starts exploring and finds a tasty treat on the counter. Libby eats it and gets sick. Her family comes back and takes her to “Critter Care Crew”. Their visit to the vet turns their fun day into an upsetting one. They leave knowing what dogs should and shouldn't eat. The experience teaches them something they'll never forget. Will Libby learn from what happened, too?

What Did Libby Do? by Dr. Gal Chivvis is a sweet story with a message every dog owner should hear. Chocolate isn't safe for dogs, and this book shares that lesson in a way young children can understand without feeling lectured. It would make a wonderful read-aloud. The rhyming words are fun and help with early literacy skills. I'd gladly use it during a unit on pets, responsibility, or making safe choices. I’d then talk with my students about why rules exist and what to do in an emergency. The "Did You Know?" pages and the “Mistakes” section are also great extensions for the classroom or for use at home. Andi Ketch's illustrations are bright and expressive. My favorite was the one with Libby pointing at the cat. Anyone looking for stories about pets, kindness, and learning through mistakes will want to pick this one up. It's a strong choice for homes, schools, and libraries.

What Did Libby Do? by Dr. Gal Chivvis is the second book in The Critter Care Crew series. Libby is an adorable and lovable puppy who is curious and has a tendency to find trouble thanks to her love of adventure and discovery. However, sometimes this gets her into the kind of trouble that’s harmful. That’s when her family must turn to the Critter Care Crew to get her the help she needs. After Libby eats chocolate, she has quite the medical scare that teaches her family about chocolate toxicity and the importance of being careful.

By treating Libby as a fully-fledged character, young readers can connect with her, and it gives them a deeper understanding of what a dog can and can’t have. This is an ideal read for classrooms and the home, as it is an easy teaching tool that uses a rhyme scheme to keep children engaged while learning. Libby helps the story feel whimsical and imaginative, while providing real-world insight and important vet information. The medical information is written so that it stays kid-friendly even when discussing canine food hazards. This book is highly recommended for introducing children to pets or to spark a discussion about pet responsibility. The book also includes optional companion activities to dive deeper into the topics provided. Dr. Gal Chivvis introduces themes of teamwork, bravery, and compassion when learning from mistakes. Libby gives children a role model that teaches them the importance of listening. However, despite the important topics addressed, there is humor in the story, such as Libby's playfulness and her attitude. This is clearly seen in the illustrations, which provide a lot of detail and engagement for youngsters learning to read. What Did Libby Do? teaches young readers about pet responsibility, chocolate toxicity, mistakes, and food hazards in an adorable, engaging, and humorous story.

What Did Libby Do? by Dr. Gal Chivvis introduces us to Libby Lu, a goofy, sweet little puppy living at the end of a quiet street. She's a smart one, no doubt about it, but she's young, and she's still working out the difference between right and wrong. Her curiosity gets her into trouble more often than not, and one Halloween night, it leads her straight to something tempting sitting on the kitchen counter that she just can't leave alone. When her family gets home and finds the house a total mess, with Libby looking shaky and sick, they rush to get her help. Readers follow along as the Critter Care Crew steps in at the emergency vet clinic to help Libby through a scary medical moment. Thanks to a made-up "translator" gadget that turns her barks into words, Libby finally gets to tell everyone what really happened. Will she pull through, and will she learn from it?

Written by Dr. Gal Chivvis, a working veterinarian, What Did Libby Do? is part of The Critter Care Crew series and does a nice job of mixing a fun story with some real pet safety lessons, especially around chocolate and why it's dangerous for dogs. The book's biggest strength is a made-up pet translator that lets Libby explain how she's feeling in her own words, which makes the whole vet visit less scary and easier for kids to relate to. Beyond the story itself, the book carries a message that everybody can relate to: mistakes happen, and that's true whether you're a person or a puppy. There's a "Did You Know?" section and a rundown of foods that aren't safe for dogs, both useful for any family with a pet at home. The book also comes with free companion activities for parents, teachers, and homeschoolers, which adds even more value for anyone using it in a classroom or at home. It strikes a good balance between a real medical scare and a tone that is warm and reassuring the whole way through. It gives kids a message worth remembering: being responsible means owning your mistakes and learning from them.

What Did Libby Do? A Veterinary Tale of Mischief and Mishaps by Dr. Gal Chivvis, DVM, is a beautifully illustrated, fun, and educational read. Libby Lu is a sweet, goofy pup who loves adventure. But her exploring gets her into a lot of trouble. For example, she may sometimes make a mess by toppling over the garbage bin. Fortunately, Libby has a very understanding family who takes into account that she is still very young and learning to distinguish right from wrong. They try their best to be patient with her and train her. This seems to work. However, one evening, Libby caught a whiff of something that smelled irresistible. She does not fully understand how fatal her actions could potentially be, but she knows she should refrain. Does she do the right thing?

I enjoyed reading What Did Libby Do? More importantly, I believe that Dr. Gal Chivvis’ target audience would love to read this book. The story has a very interesting and relatable plot. I think that people who have or have had young pets know how troublesome they can be to handle. I like that the vibrant illustrations expand the storyline. The story is well-paced. The author uses very simple but impactful language, and the sentences flow smoothly from one to the next. Libby is a very lovable character, despite causing some mischief. Her family and the Critter Care Crew also come across as very sensible people. I really appreciated the educational sections at the end. I learned what types of chocolates are least and most toxic to dogs. I strongly recommend What Did Libby Do? to young readers and dog lovers.
