Glen Branson has moved back to his hometown. It’s just before Christmas, and the villagers are busy preparing the town for the festive season. Keen to be part of the community, Glen joins in. His long-time best friend and bakery owner, Julie, puts him to work. He meets Derek and assists him in clearing the snow and putting up decorations. Glen feels sparks every time he’s near Derek, and it appears that Derek feels the same way. Glen’s also struggling with the concept of returning to his hometown permanently and questioning whether it’s the right choice for him. Derek might just be the deal-breaker. Do the guys get their Christmas miracle and a happy ending? Read A Christmas Wish by Luis Ammerman to find out. You’ll be glad you did.

A Christmas Wish is a novella that can be read in one or two sittings. What I loved most about this book is that there’s no ‘coming out’ or homophobic friends or family members to win over. It’s just a love story between two men. Books like this that treat the topic as a mainstream offering are doing wonders for the LGBTQ community. Neither of the protagonists is a stereotype either; they’re not florists, baristas, or actors. Glen is a successful lawyer, and Derek has his own snow shoveling business. This story is a refreshing look at how two men can meet and fall in love the old-fashioned way, with not a dating app in sight. I highly recommend Luis Ammerman’s A Christmas Wish to everyone who enjoys a slow-burning love story.
