A Dog's Memoir is a beautiful tribute to a beloved dog. It follows a dog's journey from the mean, hostile streets of Southeast Los Angeles to a confining rescue shelter and finally to the comfort and warmth of a loving Manhattan Beach forever home. Dorothy Chang-Van Horn shares the adventures, struggles, challenges, and experiences of Da Chi, an amazing Chiweenie. For Chi, living on the streets every day is a challenge. She has to run, hide, and search for shelter, water, and food to survive. No street is safe for a girl dog. Luckily, one day, she meets Yorkie, a purebred Yorkshire Terrier, and befriends him. Shortly after that, they get caught by animal control, fearing they will be put to forever sleep. Now at the animal shelter, they must wait for some compassionate humans to adopt them.

This uplifting memoir is written from a dog's point of view. It combines fiction and nonfiction and contains interesting, incredible photos and facts. A Dog's Memoir is a captivating and emotional story of survival, companionship, compassion, and enduring loyalty. It encourages readers to create a better life for dogs everywhere. Dorothy Chang-Van Horn depicted Da Chi's character beautifully and provided a fantastic ending to this lovely story. It made me sob and smile. This dog's tale will capture the hearts of all dog lovers. Most importantly, it inspires us to open our minds and hearts to the valuable daily lessons dogs try to teach. Dogs can teach us about love and loss, to be better humans, more patient, and understanding.
