The Pact of Exit by Her Majesty Of Ink and Exit Wounds follows a woman known as the Queen, whose neatly ordered life has begun to hide truths she can no longer keep tucked away. Velin, an ink-bound witness who reads every shift in her silence, sees what she refuses to name. Bunny, her sharp-tongued familiar, keeps his own record of every slight committed against her. Her brother Jack arrives when trouble is close, bringing his particular form of protection. At the same time, the Queen’s relationship with Kevin sits uneasily inside a household where everyone seems to notice what she does not. When the Pocket Chaos Deck is created by Velin with Bunny, a card game begins asking questions the Queen has spent years stepping around, turning her court toward an exit she has not yet chosen.
The Pact of Exit by Her Majesty Of Ink and Exit Wounds is an incredible fantasy built around a unique court where memory takes physical form, giving the book a way to examine what people permit themselves to remember. The author understands that symbolism works best when it feels inseparable from the world, which is why the Queen’s broken teacup carries power as an object tied to something she once called an accident. Velin’s drawers extend that idea beautifully, turning private memories into photographs arranged around the version of events she has accepted. The hidden hall beneath the library carries the same imaginative strength, with names carved into stone that can only be added to, giving remembrance a permanent place inside the setting itself. That’s smart fantasy writing with purpose behind every object. Readers who appreciate symbolic fantasy built around memory will find plenty to appreciate in The Pact of Exit. Very highly recommended.
