This latest book of Dorothy Garlock is set in the 1930’s and begins with 25-year-old Adrianna Moore grieving the death of her father. She discovers that her father’s attorney, Richard Pope, is taking over her father’s interests, including her. He wants to marry her A Week From Sunday, and he has already set the plans. Adrianna is so sickened by the thought of marrying the man that she escapes in her father‘s car.
With one destination in mind, Adrianna instead ends up in the small town called Lee’s Point, where she crashes into a truck driven by Quinn Baxter. To pay for damages and to get her car fixed, Adrianna becomes the newest member of a town by striking a bargain with Quinn, to play piano in his bar and to take care of his young brother, Jesse. Adrianna gets to know many other people, including Quinn’s housekeeper, Lola, who wants to be more than just the housekeeper and is willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, which is Quinn. We also get to know Quinn’s gentle friend, Gabe, and the town’s female doctor, Dr. Bordeaux. A few other characters show up as well, making for an interesting cast.
Then, Richard Pope comes to town, finding Adrianna and causing even more havoc. The drama keeps you going all the way to the end, where everything becomes right again. It is a definite read.
