American Calamity is a work of fiction in the thriller, action, and post-apocalyptic genres. It is best suited to mature readers owing to scenes of graphic violence and adult situations throughout. Penned by author Edward S Pocock III, the plot follows Stephen Moore, a retired police officer in Maine, as foreign superpowers, notably China and North Korea, destabilize the United States with an EMP attack. This dystopian novel explores the societal collapse and polarization resulting from unchecked power. Through a gripping narrative and an eclectic cast, including an old tank named Spanky, the story delves into themes of patriotism, rebellion, and survival in a post-apocalyptic world, questioning the thin line between ally and enemy.

Author Edward S Pocock III has crafted a thrilling and thought-provoking story with plenty to offer fans of high-concept and high-action novels. I fell into the dystopian narrative with immediate ease thanks to the immersive and atmospheric language, and the story rooted in current geopolitical tensions made everything feel gripping and eerily plausible. Stephen Moore’s character embodies the resilience and patriotism that drive the plot forward, and there are moments of delight and unexpected charm in the vivid dialogue and fierce dynamics between Moore and the people he meets along the way. The exploration of societal collapse and the blurred lines between friend and foe was particularly compelling, prompting reflection on contemporary issues of power and division. Overall, American Calamity is a captivating page-turner that I’d certainly recommend to fans of action novels everywhere.
