An Icelandic Adventure by S. Bavey is about family bonding, Icelandic culture, and stunning landscapes. The Bavey family longs for a cool summer as they face a heatwave in the United States. This leads to the decision to embark on an epic vacation. In a flurry of packing, the family quickly embarks from their home in Massachusetts and heads for an unforgettable adventure to ‘the land of fire and ice.’ Together, they share a variety of exciting experiences from traveling to gorgeous waterfalls to constant daylight. The scenery took their breaths away with the largest glacier in Europe, an iceberg lagoon, and incredible wildlife sightings. This heartwarming story is about family and enjoying time spent together against a stunning backdrop.
The lighthearted tone is filled with warmth as S. Bavey looks back on these moments with fondness. The writing is charming with descriptions that offer details from packing in a hurry to exploring black sand beaches. Bavey captures the visuals and these pair well with the photographs incorporated. These images offer an assortment of various sights and experiences, including the family gathered in the snow, the blue lagoon spa, and architecture. These gorgeous shots perfectly capture the beauty that Iceland has to offer. The book focuses on their time in Iceland with different activities and experiences highlighted, including trying new food, checking out the bridge between two continents, and seeing the largest glacier in Europe. Bavey teaches readers about how the largest glacier is retreating, gives a little insight into Norse mythology, and a version of yogurt called skyr. These facts create an immersive picture of what Iceland is like and is perfect for armchair travelers. However, important details like expenses and the weather will appeal to those wishing to take a trip there themselves. Whether it’s sightseeing for puffins, dealing with the cold, or visiting lovely Viking-style architecture, excitement is felt on every page of An Icelandic Adventure.
