Three identical triplet sisters go to a movie with their older cousin and only two of the girls come out of the theater. This commences an intriguing story in which multiple perpetrators are introduced while the reader speculates on the possible involvement of each potential perpetrator.

As the story develops, the reader is asked to ponder whether the kidnapping of the girls is a vendetta against the father of the girls who is a former star in the Yankees organization or whether it might be targeted toward the girls' mother who is a forensic psychiatrist who deals daily with child abusers, many of whom served prison time. The real mystery is a third alternative.

Unfortunately, two of the potential perps are killed off early in the book and this leaves the reader with a pretty good idea of what is happening. While the book is a good read, it falls a bit short of the promised story that will "leave readers gasping for breath." As the plot progresses, the plan becomes more predictable and as a result, the ending is anticipated by the reader.

Even though Patricia Gussin falls a bit short of producing a top notch thriller, she does write a better-than-good story which will leave most readers able to get through their own worst nightmares as parents and be left with warm and fuzzy feelings at the end.
