Angels in the Sand by Lori Keating is a poignant story that follows Jessica, a ten-year-old girl grappling with the sudden loss of her father and the impending loss of her grandmother to cancer. Her mother is also struggling to cope with their family's tragedy, and both mother and daughter visit Jessica's grandmother. They get comfort and wisdom about moving on and embracing new beginnings. Jessica finds solace in her chocolate lab, Sadie Bug, who teaches her about resilience and embracing new life. Meanwhile, her mother gives love another chance when she decides to be with Jimmy. As Jessica adjusts to her new life and her mother’s relationship, she discovers the significance of family, the value of creating memories, and the comforting idea that those we lose continue to watch over us.
