After a tragic accident claims the life of her brother, a young police officer is reeling from the physical and supernatural aftereffects in the sensational paranormal short story, Beginnings ( A Story of Grace Bishop's Paranorm World) by Denise Bossarte. Grace is struggling with self-blame over her brother Danny's death. Feeling her police training should have prevented his accident, Grace can't accept that it isn't her fault. Not only is she suffering from survivor's guilt, but she also has the dubious privilege of noisy ghosts infiltrating her room. The only time Grace experiences peace is when her psychic friend drops by or when a particular nurse comes to her room and wakens her. The proximity of these two welcome visitors chases away the unwanted guests. However, they differ in their approach to Grace's mental and emotional healing. Grace's friend encourages her to concede that Danny's death was an accident and release her guilt. On the other hand, the nurse agrees with Grace's self-incrimination and admonishes her to end her life. Caught up in her grief, physical pain and unwelcome paranormal abilities, Grace isn't coping well with her latest reality. Can Grace adjust to her recent acquisition of otherworldly abilities?
Beginnings (A Story of Grace Bishop's Paranorm World) by Denise Bossarte is a stunning short story that grabs you from the first paragraph. It is an exciting first segment of a larger story. This portion of the account relates the first step in Grace's recovery and imparts a tantalizing taste of what is to come. Being one element of a series of short stories, the mystery is artfully sustained as the enigmatic plot unfolds. This is a clever opening for what promises to be an exceptional series. I am looking forward to reading more about Grace and her uncanny exploits and I highly recommend it to fans of paranormal novellas.
