Bella Summer Takes a Chance by Michele Gorman talks about Bella, a 38-year-old aspiring musician, who works as a consultant to pay the bills. When Bella, or B, as she calls herself, realizes that she isn't in love with her boyfriend of ten years, she decides to throw all caution to the wind and break up in order to have a chance at finding that feeling. Despite all her other friends' warnings at how ridiculous she's being, B sticks by her choice and, despite seemingly disastrous dates or meetings with almost Mr Rights, B navigates her new-found freedom and discovers that even if you don't have a clue with what's going to happen, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy life every step of the way.
I really enjoyed reading B's adventures and thoughts. She's an insightful heroine, filled with all the questions most women ask themselves, no matter what age when it comes to men and other things. I personally loved the backdrop of England as the setting for this book, and despite it being written as British English, it wasn't a problem when it came to understanding the humor and the wit of the book. I love reading about all of B's friends too, and her nicknames for each of her dates after Mattias were charming. The personalities of each of her friends were very well written and I like the fact that they had their own adventures with their lives as well. Definitely a book I'd want to share with my own girl friends!
