Cleo's Golden Adventures is a coloring book for children with a heartwarming story based on real events. Written and designed by Maria Beatriz Fernández Passarino, it tells how Cleo, a very small kitten, arrives on the doorstep one rainy night, crying and afraid. Two bright stars in the sky guide her to the house, and she’s come to the right place. The kind couple who own the home take her in, and soon, she’s living her best life. Surrounded by love and toys, many of which belonged to her older brothers, she plays and jumps, gets in trouble, and watches over her little kingdom. Her new parents were very sad after losing their beloved cats, but little Cleo brings love and happiness back to their home.
Kids and adults will love the story of Cleo’s Golden Adventures by Maria Beatriz Fernández Passarino. It gently teaches kids about the pain of losing beloved pets and about the power of love to heal heartbreak. I especially liked the little hints about the two stars and her brothers’ old toys, which refer to the two beloved cats who lived with Cleo’s parents before her. The book is inspired by and exemplifies the Japanese art of kintsugi (“golden joinery”), where broken pottery or ceramics are exquisitely repaired with gold, silver, and lacquer. The pictures are complex enough to spark creative ideas, and each has a blank backing page to keep the colors from running into the next page. Cleo is lovable and lively, and we hope to read more about her adventures soon. Highly recommended.
