Madison Grey is in the fortunate position of being able to move on with her life when she is devastated by the betrayal of her boyfriend and business partner, Robert. Moving to Cape Cod to open an up-scale inn is just the kind of challenge she needs, but putting her heart in jeopardy was not on her list of things to do. Beyond the Mooring by Christine A. West follows Madison as she oversees the renovations to the Raven’s Nest Inn in preparation for opening. She comes face to face with the owner of Connors Contracting – a gorgeous hunk of a man with a warm, caring personality. Unfortunately, Jack has deep seated personal issues of his own and the instant attraction both of them feel for one another leads as much to insecurities and questions as it does to steamy passion. Can Madison and Jack overcome the hurts of the past to embrace what might be a wonderful future, or will small town talk and left-over heartache prevent them from discovering that they no longer need to be adrift?
Great characters and a wonderful setting are just part of what makes Beyond the Mooring by Christine A. West an excellent read. Heart-felt emotion and true introspection by Madison and Jack provide a sincere realism frequently lacking in modern romance literature. Vivid descriptions and psychological depth, along with a well-paced, engaging plot keep you turning the pages, anxious to see how the next issue plays out. Beyond the Mooring is a pleasure to read and a great first novel – let’s hope to see lots more!
