Author Biography

D.M. Mewha lives in the magical land of "The DC Suburbs" where he does battle with monsters such as "Beltway Traffic", and "Wow, Everything Is Too Expensive" with the help of his talented and far-too-patient wife and an assorted menagerie of pets that she threatens to make weirder as time goes on (people don't really want skunks as pets, do they?). He writes sci-fi and fantasy in a variety of flavors and is a certified TTRPG nerd who dabbles in some tabletop wargaming, which sounds better than "he plays with little plastic guys and makes them go "pew pew".

Jason Bishop is a retired occultist who owns a restaurant and bar called Bishop's Crossing in the iconic French Quarter of New Orleans. Jason is familiar with the darker side of this beautiful city. Once an avid explorer of the Gloaming that gives shelter to the most vicious monsters, Jason tries hard to be a good father to his beloved eight-year-old daughter, Mary, and win his ex-wife Jackie's heart back. But when the powerful Voodoo king's daughter goes missing, the secret organization within the Catholic Church asks Jason to find her. Otherwise, the inevitable clashes between the feuding clans will shake New Orleans fundamentally. Jason reluctantly starts his investigation while a dangerous fanatic threatens Mary. Mature fans of urban fantasy, mystery, paranormal, and adventure will appreciate Bishop's Crossing by D. M. Mewha.

In Bishop's Crossing, D. M. Mewha creates an intriguing world where a friendly bartender hides a blood-curdling background, and a talented torch singer may be a seductive succubus. The book has multidimensional characters, like the extraordinary Papa Ivé, and a captivating setting. Mewha shows New Orleans in a different, mystical light. The author thoroughly examines the dynamics between fathers and daughters and reflects on belonging, self-sacrifice, true friendship, family values, forgiveness, and acceptance. The first-person narrative effortlessly flows as the main character challenges his formidable enemies. Jason is a vivid protagonist, thanks to his black humor and ability to admit his mistakes. Mewha writes compelling dialogue, combines heart-pounding scenes with Jason's keen observations, adds a tasteful romance, and makes us reevaluate our perception of monsters. Overall, this novel is witty, entertaining, and thought-provoking.
