Blinded is the third novel in the Retrieval, Inc. series by JB Schroeder. Charlie should be on cloud nine. She had Mitch by her side, and their PI business was thriving, but her past was not ready to leave her just yet. Thomas Weihle was in custody, but somehow, he found ways to remind Charlie just how defenseless she was. It was all going well until something terrible happened. The sister of District Attorney Gerty Kolacsko went missing, and Gerty was floundering because of it. It made sense for Mitch and Charlie to take the case and look for Leah before it was too late. Before they knew it, Charlie and Mitch were racing against time to find Leah. But could they do it without running into Thomas’s men? Would Charlie get the justice she deserved? Or would Thomas walk free?
I have not read the previous novels in the series, but I had no issues forming a connection with Charlie and becoming invested in her story. She was strong but vulnerable; however, Mitch was there to hold her together as she was breaking down. I felt bad for Gerty and sympathized with her. Her sister was missing, and Gerty was desperate. I thought the focus of the story would be on Charlie, but it turned out that Mitch and Charlie were equal partners. I loved how they supported each other as Thomas was creating chaos in their lives. The pace was fast without being overwhelming. It was just right and complemented the narrative style. Author JB Schroeder made sure to tease readers at the right moments to increase their curiosity while also adding more interest to the story. Blinded was the perfect combination of suspense, romance, and good old mystery. By the time I finished Blinded, I wanted to grab the first book and start from the beginning. Simply put, I loved it.
