“I was twelve years old when I first met eyes with Leo, forty-five years later, I looked into his eyes one last time.” The first sentence in the prologue of Blue Skies of Leo Lejon by Dawn Bogart illustrates the almost indescribable connection between Leo and Kaliope. Kali was raised in and continued the practice of her Greek Orthodox faith with a strong commitment. The practice of her family religion was a major part of her childhood, even when her parents were challenged in “not being saved” by some southern Protestant relatives. When Kali and Leo began their relationship as adolescents, there was an immediate connection that some people would call a twin flame connection. However, religious beliefs brought an end to this relationship. When Kali later learned how he had always stayed connected, it was a bittersweet revelation.
Author Dawn Bogart has written a heartwarming and heartrending love story in Blue Skies of Leo Lejon. One of the unique features of this book is the inclusion of religious content, both in theology and family traditions, especially those concerning Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The author skillfully places this information within an intriguing plot. The characters of Kali and Leo, as well as friends, family members, and a private investigator, are well described. Kali’s special intuitive gifts are also an interesting feature, adding another element to the plot. In Blue Skies of Leo Lejon, Dawn Bogart reveals how a special relationship between the two main characters evolves with some surprising twists and turns. An unforgettable read! Lovely book!
