Gloria the playbus has returned full of rhymes and fun but don’t forget the playtime, too. How about some fun with numbers? “Four little buses went driving one day,/ Over the hills and far away./ Along the road and down the track,/ but … one got stuck in a narrow lane.” That leaves how many buses? Sue Wickstead’s Bus Rymes and Playtime is an invitation for young readers to take a fun ride on a bus and see where it’ll lead them. There’s lots to see and learn, lots to do. And the most fun of all is the sing-alongs and stories to share. That’s what it means to ride on a bus: play, sing, and share some stories. So hop on board and ride along. You might have fun, but you’ll definitely learn something interesting.

Sue Wickstead’s picture book, Bus Rhymes and Playtime, is another fun book in her playful bus series. Like the incredible journeys and adventures of Wilbert and Christopher Awdry’s Thomas the Tank Engine series, Wickstead’s anthropomorphized bus stories will open the minds and imaginations of young readers. This book allows readers to enjoy sing-alongs and catchy rhymes that add a touch of humor along with some interesting storybook characters that are entertaining, engaging, and educational. The illustrations, as always, are superb and certainly will entice the young and the young at heart to explore not only the stories and rhymes but the images, too. I love the rhymes and the sense of adventure this book evokes.
