In Cake Popped Off (Cupcake Catering Mystery Series Book 2) by Kim Davis, Emory is the main character as she and her elderly sidekick Tillie manage to get themselves deeply involved in solving a murder. Emory is a cupcake caterer; her twin sister supplies the food. The Halloween costume party is in full swing until one of the servers is found dead in Emory’s bathtub. Each guest is interviewed and, in the end, the main suspect is Emory’s brother-in-law. Emory and Tillie put the pieces together and begin asking questions of their Country Club friends. Soon, another murder takes place and the plot thickens as to who is responsible and why these killings happened, and what the relationship between the two dead women might be. Emory is determined to find the answers and clear her brother-in-law's name. Tillie is happy to be involved and willing to put herself in danger looking for the answer.

I really enjoyed reading Cake Popped Off; it is a good cozy mystery. There was mystery, suspense, comedy, romance, family ties, and no idea of the outcome. The story twists and turns and several people appear to be the killer, but the final reveal is one that I never saw coming. Kim Davis has created a series with amateur detective Emory that has enormous possibilities for many more books, and I for one can’t wait to read them. Kim also included detailed recipes that had my mouth watering and me adding the ingredients to my shopping list. I highly urge you to read Cake Popped Off. There is a great future ahead for Emory’s next mystery.
