Catch Up! is a children’s picture book written and illustrated by Cazzy Zahursky. The story unravels as a family enjoys a picnic in a park. When the mother asks her little boy to pass a bottle of ketchup, the cap falls off the picnic table. Before the boy can retrieve it, their dog Buddy catches it, thinking they’re playing a game of fetch. The cap falls off and a team of chipmunks repurposes it as a frisbee. The game continues when an army of ants catches the cap and uses it as a boat. Some mice get hold of the cap and use it as a wheel. The game of catch continues with the other animals in the park and the cap is further used as a sled, a hat, and a drum. Ultimately, Buddy fetches the cap and brings it back to the boy but they don’t need it anymore because the ketchup is all gone. Then someone asks for the bottle of Mayo and another game of catch may start once again.

Cazzy Zahursky’s Catch Up! is an entertaining picture book that should stimulate a child’s imagination. The story is simple for young readers to understand but is entertaining enough to capture a child’s imagination. The illustrations are appealing and are very helpful in setting the tone of the story. This book is designed to amuse and inspire young readers to be creative. The characters are relatable and the animals are lovable. I find it creatively inspiring to teach children that a humble bottle cap can be transformed into a frisbee, a boat, a sled, a hat, and a drum. This should aid children’s cognitive development, encourage independent thought, and help them learn about the world in a fun and interesting way.
