Changing Worlds is the first book in The Dharalyn Chronicles by Donald Dambois. Danielle Walkerman lost her mother, and nothing was ever the same. She felt incredibly alone. However, that all changed when she met Dharalyn under suspicious circumstances. Sticking to each other from the moment they meet, the two girls quickly form a bond and become each other’s allies. But there is something eerily different about Dharalyn, something that excites and shakes Danielle a little bit. Dharalyn is a vampire that needs blood to survive, but that was not all. Some dangerous and formidable people were after Dharalyn and wanted her dead. Danielle thought there wasn’t much she could do to save her new friend, but she was wrong. Together, these two girls make all the difference in each other’s lives. They just had to find the courage to do so.

I loved the bond between Dharalyn and Danielle. These two girls lost their mothers and felt alone in the world. However, together they formed a bond that was more than friendship and bigger than family. I also loved that the vampires were scary and not some soft-around-the-edges misunderstood characters. The vampires were terrifying, dedicated to finding Dharalyn and making her pay. I found Dharalyn’s background story fascinating and hope Donald Dambois will one day write a prequel. As for the other characters, Big John was my favorite in the secondary character list. He was gentle yet very protective of his daughter. The story was stimulating, the pace was fast, and the characters had a depth that made them very intriguing to me. The plot was clear and complex enough to keep me hooked. The author ended Changing Worlds at a high point, making me look forward to the next novel in the series. Entertaining and fun!
