Author Biography

Evangeline Auld - Writing as Hilary Chase

I was born and grew up in South Africa. I moved to Britain as an adult, lived for a time
in the Middle East, and I'm now based in France.

My family were all voracious readers - you could say books were a family passion.
As time went on, for me this interest translated into a love of writing as well and some
of my efforts have been published on Amazon.

I write under my own name and also on a variety of subjects under different pen names.

I've written 34 books to date but must add that they are mainly short books and some are children's books with illustrations. Some of my books were written by my sister who is too modest to publish under her own name, and some co-written with her. I have lived in France since 2004 and enjoy the life here, the climate, the people and the food and wine!

I love books (of course), music of all kinds, gardening and animals and am totally in love with cats. Maybe that's why so many of my children's books feature cats. I also write poetry (well, really just verses) when the mood strikes me, and sometimes find this easier than prose. To my astonishment I was lucky enough one year to win the Swift Society Prize for a satirical poem in the style of Jonathan Swift, and have put this on Amazon as a Kindle book, even though I don't think many people buy poetry nowadays.

I love the English language and in mid-life obtained an Honours degree in English Literature from the University of London and the study was simply a work of love.

My latest book is titled 'Kindness Code' and is a short book inspired by, I think, feelings of gratitude for the kindness shown to me by friends and strangers at a dark period in my life..

I am currently working on a children's book which is inspired by a wonderful cat who lived with me a long time ago - an intrepid hunter.

Chaos on Kariba: Houseboat from Hell by Hilary Chase is a story of a woman who is trying to find the love of her life at the opposite corner of the world. When she met Anton, Paula had no idea that she would cross the world and try to find him. But she did that, exactly that, because she believed in their love. She travels all over Africa. What happens before she meets him? It’s a series of adventures, misadventures, sometimes fun and sometimes scary. But even when it is disappointing, it is still love, a deep profound love.

Chaos on Kariba: Houseboat from Hell by Hilary Chase is a truly tremendous story. There is passion, there is suspense, there is a mystery, there is drama, and there is love. This novel is a potent mix of emotions, love, and a woman’s desire to reunite with her love. I really like female characters like Paula; she is a strong, determined woman who has the guts to go after what she wants. I really liked it that she took charge and walked across the earth to find Anton. Not many women have guts like that, but they are in this world.

Every single element of the story was written beautifully. The characters were well-developed. The scenery was beautiful and idyllic. Also, I really appreciated the insights I got into the characters’ minds and personalities. A great romance that is clean and crisp. I enjoyed it immensely. You could definitely feel Hilary Chase’s presence. She may not be in the story, but she is still present, folks, and I loved that.
