Author Biography

Growing up, Cassie Sanchez always wanted superpowers and to be a warrior princess fighting alongside unlikely heroes. Suffice it to say, she lost herself in books, from fantasy to sci-fi to a suspenseful romance. Currently, Cassie lives in the southwest with her husband, Louie, while pestering her two adult men-children. She can usually be found drinking too much coffee while working in her office with her dog, Gunner and Bullet, warming her feet. When she isn’t writing about magic and sword fights, she enjoys golf, spending time with friends, or partaking in a satisfying nap. You can visit her online at cassiesanchez.com.

Chasing the Darkness is an action-packed epic fantasy novel written by Cassie Sanchez. After the sudden death of King Valerie at the hands of a Fire Spectral, Watch Guard Commander Drexus Zoldac forms a group of elite Hunters who target Spectrals - people with magical abilities - of all kinds. Amongst his recruits is twelve-year-old Jasce Farone, an orphan who, under Drexus's mentorship, turns into the vengeful and murderous Angel of Death, Azrael. When Drexus infuses Azrael with a dangerous serum to grant him Spectral abilities, Azrael becomes even more powerful and unpredictable, leading to the Hunters betraying him. He finds himself rescued by two Spectral siblings named Kord and Kenz, alongside whom he sets off for revenge against his former employers. However, they must destroy Drexus's serum before he creates more abominations.

Filled with action, intrigue, romance, and betrayal, Chasing the Darkness is a wild fantasy ride that keeps your eyes glued to the page. Author Cassie Sanchez weaves an intricate tale of power, revenge, and redemption that fans of epic fantasy will find thoroughly entertaining. The plot moves at a breakneck speed with twists and turns that keep you firmly engaged in the narrative. The characters have well-developed arcs and diverse personalities. Azrael particularly undergoes a significant amount of change as different plot events put him to the test. He experiences a constant battle between his Angel of Death persona and being Jasce Farone, which is well-portrayed. I also enjoyed his relationship with Kenz. I would recommend Chasing the Darkness to readers who love epic fantasy novels.

This book was the perfect book hangover cure I have ever came a crossed! Step inside a magical world where Spectrals and Naturals are at war and a Angel of Death find himself in the middle, with the biggest war of all ranging in himself.

A 5 star read for sure! No wonder this book took the crown in the American fiction Awards of 2021! It was AMAZING.

The author even adds a Pronunciation guide which automatically wants me to give plus a million stars.

“Pain is inevitable- suffering is a choice.”

Azrael ,Angel of death wants one thing: Revenge.Revenge on the Fire Spectral was his life, his mission, his purpose. Branded with loyalty, honor, and obedience on his skin he has been taught to hate and kill Spectrals all his life. That is until a mission of death goes wrong, and he is saved by two of those beings he loathes the most. As secrets are revealed and lies exposed, he has to face emotions even more powerful than revenge. And adopt an identity he is more terrified of than being the angel of death.

I finished this book in one sitting because honestly its just that good. A fast-pacing fantasy novel packed with action and powerful moments, accompanied with magic and romance that will have you shocked and intrigued. Our MC is morally grey as many(especially me) would prefer and he’s not a teenager- plus 5 stars! This typical anti-hero will slowly creep into your heart and you can’t help but root for him every step of the way.

Kord is by far also one of my favorite characters! He is such a cinnamon roll!

So to break it down, if you like any of the following this book is definitely for you:

✨Fantasy with a lot of action( made me think of TOG)
✨Found family trope
✨Enemies-to-lovers
✨Magic and elements
✨Tormented anti-hero
✨Assassins
✨New found identity
✨Fast-pacing with plot twists
