The authors have a real gift for showing how trade policy reaches ordinary Americans, then backing that discussion with documented cases. Their treatment of organic import certification demonstrates that skill, connecting weaknesses that permit fraudulent products into the United States with the USDA’s 2024 requirement for electronic certificates on organic imports. Their discussion of pharmaceutical sourcing carries the same persuasive quality, using contaminated heparin entering the American drug supply alongside FDA findings. The authors know how to take material that could feel buried in policy language and talk to the reader in a way that feels direct, informed, and easy to follow. Someone coming in cold can understand the argument, while a reader already familiar with international trade will find plenty of documented support behind what is being said. This is an ambitious book of importance for today’s trade discussion. I recommend China’s Secret Strategy to readers seeking a serious examination of American trade exposure to China.
