Lady D's Chiseled by Choices combines her own life stories with advice about recovering from trauma and rebuilding one's life. The book examines various aspects of personal wellness and their impact on us. It covers topics such as emotional health, loss, relationships, work, finances, spirituality, and growth during challenging moments. Lady D opens up about her childhood in foster care and the way abandonment and trauma shaped her life. She even connects these experiences to the decisions people make as adults. Throughout her book, she encourages readers to examine their own habits, thoughts, and relationships, and do the necessary work of healing, using journaling, self-reflection, and support from others. The overall message is that while life does affect our identity, the decisions we make shape us even more.
Reading Lady D's Chiseled by Choices felt like listening to an honest person talk about their life and the lessons they learned. Some parts read like a story, while others offer advice that encourages the reader to reflect on their own situation. The eight-facet wellness idea keeps the book organized, but the personal stories are what really give the book its personality. It is not the kind of self-help book that is packed with overly complex explanations. Instead, it is more about examining your everyday choices, building self-awareness, and learning to rise above the challenges that appear in your life. Although some sections recap similar ideas, the general tone is sincere and down-to-earth, making the chapters very easy to relate to. Overall, it reads like someone sharing what helped them rebuild their own life with the hope that it will help others do the same. Very highly recommended.
