Who gets married on April Fool’s Day? Well, that’s when Summer Meadows, owner of Summers Confections, has her wedding planned with Ethan, the man of her dreams. She has her quirky cousin Mae Belle, owner of A Dream Wedding, making all the plans for her wedding. She should have expected things to go all wrong; Mae Belle has a knack for messing up any party she is hired to do. This time some disgruntled person ends up with putting a letter opener in her back. Summer is sure she can solve any crime. She is a real Nancy Drew type of girl, except she usually ends up bungling up the clues way before solving them. So what that she almost got killed in the last two crimes she helped solve! She is determined to solve the mystery of her cousin’s murder, with the help of Ethan; her cousin Joe, who is the local sheriff; and her Aunt Eunice. Her list of suspects grows and so do the threats coming at her. One of her suspects is murdered. Can Summer help get this solved before anyone else, including herself, ends up dead?
The characters in this book are so likable that it’s hard not to feel a connection with them: from Summer and Aunt Eunice to Uncle Roy, who thinks every problem can be solved with his rifle, to Ethan and his sister April. The book has some hilarious moments and suspenseful moments with a dose of Christian values.
Among my top favorite genres to read are cozy mysteries and Christian fiction, so when you look at the Hometown Mystery Series you get the best of both combined. If you have never read any of the series then you are in for a real treat. Once you read one then you will want to read the rest.
