Christmas Magic by Catherine Kean follows the adventures of a lovable couple, Molly and Lucian. Their engagement represents an amalgamation of power that threatens the Dealers. Dennis has been commissioned to break them up, and secretly deposits magical sprinkles at a stall in the market. Cora Johnson bakes some cookies and feeds them to Lucian. The reincarnated knight reverts to his feudal heritage, believing Cora is his chosen maiden. A confused and distressed Molly struggles to understand Lucian’s behavior as he abandons the antique store. The comedy romps on as Lucian challenges Cora’s former boyfriend, Fred Wilson, to combat during the Christmas parade. Can Molly break the spell with the help of Julius and the Sherwood cats?
Christmas Magic by Catherine Kean was a delightful paranormal romance with a few dramatic twists. The narrative sparkled with holiday cheer as Lucian and Molly joked together while decorating the shop. The plot made excellent use of several festive motifs, including sugar cookies, Santa costumes, and favorite carols. I loved the talking cats, and especially Galahad, who was once Lucian’s faithful squire. I liked the fact that Lucian’s character remained honorable even under the influence of a malicious enchantment. I found the character of Cora Johnson sympathetic and was impressed she was not portrayed as a stereotypical villainess. I enjoyed the ending, which demonstrated there was enough happiness to include everyone. The little cat silhouettes on each page were adorable and added to the atmosphere of the story. I recommend this tale as the perfect feel-good holiday-oriented entertainment.
