Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.'s The Griffin Knight Crime Files is a collection of three stories. In Always Bet on Death, Griffin is transferred from Chicago to Long Island, where he partners with Detective Sergeant Trenton Barnes. Their investigation takes a turn when a woman’s body is discovered at the Golden Avian Casino & Hotel. An isolated murder soon turns into a series of killings. In Do Nothing, Griffin investigates the brutal murder of district attorney Natalie Costa, uncovering clues that point toward a cold-case serial killer known as “The Judge.” The case plunges him into a dangerous world as time runs out. In A Colossal Injustice, Griffin joins a mysterious hacker, Kalyx. Together they pursue an elusive killer operating between the digital and physical underworlds. Griffin’s investigation is complicated by the limits of his legal authority. It is just another obstacle in his pursuit of justice.
Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.'s The Griffin Knight Crime Files is an excellent crime collection. I was hooked from the first page to the end. I was engaged in the storylines and could not turn the pages fast enough. Griffin is a determined detective and is challenged at every turn. Griffin and Trenton Barnes worked well together. Their witty banter lightened the seriousness of the action. The chapters flowed into each other; the writing was engaging, and the story unfolded with ease. I enjoyed reading this collection and all the twists and turns. The book was intriguing, and I could not put it down. I was eager to learn what would happen next, and was never disappointed. The book was brilliantly written and the best I have read in a long time. I could not believe it when I finished reading. I cannot wait to join Griffin in his next investigation.
