In response to her reaction during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Amelia Burke-Garcia wrote Communicating Through a Pandemic to relate her experience. As she and her team developed How Right Now during a project for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she heard distressing and uplifting stories of challenges and victories during the pandemic. Dr. Burke-Garcia touches on the distinctions of the disease and highlights the importance of digital literacy. The author discusses a better response to future pandemics and the type of health communication needed to ensure success. Using past posters and other disease-related images, she breaks down the facts about pandemics over the last century and the public's reaction to them, and details the evolution of communication channels and how information, both valid and misleading, is circulated.

Amelia Burke-Garcia has written an informative book that covers many aspects of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a trusted health communication professional, she details the formation of How Right Now, a communications campaign that focuses on emotional health. Dr. Burke-Garcia and her team delivered resources and support to communities deeply affected by COVID-19 through trusted channels to inform, educate, and encourage individuals who needed help. The book doesn't just discuss the way average people communicated through the pandemic, with Zoom meetings and virtual classes; it also dives into the communications developed for the public to see and the reactions that followed. Communicating Through a Pandemic is a great selection for readers who want to open valid discussions about the COVID-19 Pandemic and gain more perspective about its effect on certain communities within the United States and around the globe.
