Critical Cover-Up by Margie Miklas tells the story of Allison Jamison who decides on a change of career and takes up a position as a critical care nurse. She anticipates her new role to be one that will be rewarding and enjoyable, but finds herself questioning certain practices and the dedication of some of the other staff. Add to that the mysterious murder of a prominent surgeon, and she begins to investigate, unravelling cover-ups and malpractice that she had never imagined possible. Intertwined into the story are relationship merry-go-rounds that make her question who she can trust, and whether she is willing to sacrifice all she believes in as she searches to find the truth.

The author, Margie Miklas, has crafted an interesting scenario where she is able to weave into the storyline her clear personal knowledge of the inner workings of a critical care unit. This, coupled with complex characters and teasers for the reader to keep them guessing, has resulted in a fast-paced mystery to be solved. The writing is clear and concise and whilst there are sometimes in-depth details of medical procedures, the pace is maintained to keep the reader’s interest. The main character, Allison, is believable and is one that the reader will empathise with. The little twists and turns along the way make this story one that will appeal especially to those who enjoy medical dramas, as well as a touch of mystery and the solving of a murder. A job well executed by this author.

"I could not put this book down. The characters are vivid and come alive as the story sucks you in. It is a story for our times giving a look into the power of social media and a scary but candid look at our healthcare system. At the same time the plot twists keep you guessing."

Susan - Amazon review

"A great read. It held my interest, and I found myself rooting for Allison and all the other nurses as they fought for fairness and ethical behavior in the workplace, solved a murder mystery, and maintained the fragile relationships all of us can relate to."

Paula - Amazon review

"Couldn't put it down! As a fellow Critical Care Nurse, I found the characters, setting, situations, and intrigue very believable. However, you do not need to have medical background to become immediately immersed in the story line."

Susan - Amazon review

"I enjoyed this debut fiction novel by Margie Miklas for a variety of reasons. I've followed her travel blog for quite some time and read her solo travel books, so I was interested to see how she would handle the move to fiction writing. Truth be told, she did a remarkable job. This book has a lot to offer: a murder mystery, romance, the role of social media in our everyday lives, women's issues, and hospital politics, just to name a few!"

Tina - Amazon review

"A fast-paced plot and well defined characters. Obviously, the author knows quite well what she is talking about when she describes the situations that can take place in an ICU. It is something of an exposé as well, because it makes one wonder if the problems which arise in Critical Cover Up are only fiction or if similar horrors are everyday occurrences in real-life ICUs... A disturbing thought! Miklas has proved to be not only an accomplished travel author, (if you haven't, read her delightful books on Italy!) but surprisingly efficient in the psychological thriller field,as well! Looking forward to more!"
