In Crown of Thorns, Mimi Deipz took me on a journey through the Moonshroud and Ember Courts, both of which are in a heap of magical trouble because of the weakening of their only source of power, the Wellspring. The story follows Princess Elara and Prince Cassian as they are forced into a politically charged marriage to save their Courts. I found the story incredibly exciting when their magic was brought together for the first time, and they were faced with the weight of what saving their world truly meant. The author does a phenomenal job of making the Courts come to life through the pages, creating a world that is delicately haunting and entirely beautiful. This introduction to the story of Princess Elara and Prince Cassian is designed to be addictive to readers who enjoy a little bit of romance in their fantasy.

From start to finish, I was completely invested in the relationship between Princess Elara and Prince Cassian! The writing really highlights the gentle, new love the two begin to feel for each other. I felt as though Mimi Deipz was showing me an important piece of her heart through her storytelling. The story takes place across a little more than 50 days. Within those days, the plot reveals so much vulnerability between the characters, which makes falling in love with them inevitable. Throughout the story, the pace is leisurely, highlighting the urgency of Princess Elara and Prince Cassian's task. I was drawn to the characters, as they have very real insecurities and depth. Overall, Crown of Thorns: The Thornwood Court Book 1 is a compelling read that describes the chaos of falling in love in a unique voice.
