This is the third book I've read by Clark Selby, and his ability to turn out fast-paced, action-packed thrillers is getting better with each installment. People who have grown up watching 80s action movies like Rocky will have an absolute blast reading Dangerous Mission. The book is full of witty dialogue and banter between Tom and his colleagues, bringing a bit of levity to the story. Tom is a charismatic hero who will never hesitate to put his life on the line for his country. You can't help but root for someone like that. The book is written in the style of a blockbuster action movie, and it is all the more entertaining for it. Recommended to all action aficionados out there.

It explores and highlights the bravery of the troops and the sacrifices these men and women have to make to ensure the world is safe from terrorist groups and their catastrophic activities. Clark Shelby does a remarkable job of portraying the characters' personal lives and interests beyond their service and military prowess. I found the relationship between Tom and his wife, Jenny, and the marriage and friendly gatherings both captivating and a beautiful depiction of the humanity of the men and women in uniform overseas. Clark also offers a fascinating story that is a perfect read for those who fancy action-packed, espionage, and military-style novels.

Her father and father-in-law helped Jenny to run her husband’s company. Tom and Jenny met while Tom was working in Hong Kong to stop dangerous cargo from being shipped into the USA. Ron Parsons from the CIA phoned Tom asking for his help. The CIA helped a leader named al-Garde to build an army to help them in Afghanistan. He has turned against the CIA. Now Tom must help the CIA to get rid of al-Garde without anyone knowing that America had anything to do with it. His murder must be blamed on al-Qaeda. That way the army that al-Garde built will stay on the CIA side.

Dangerous Mission by Clark Selby has an interesting and exciting plot. The story is fast-paced and there was never a dull moment. The plot is packed full of action with suspense and that made it very powerful. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning. I kept turning the pages and could not put the book down as it captured my interest and I felt compelled to keep reading. The characters were well developed, authentic, and skillfully handled. The main characters remained strong throughout the story. The other characters were introduced in such a way I could remember all of them. Each character had their background and personality. The story was unpredictable and there was always a surprise turn waiting for me. The book is well written and managed to exceed my expectations. It was not at all what I had expected.

Tom Parker's numerous years of meritorious service to the nation have made him an invaluable asset such that, despite his retirement, the Central Intelligence Agency still calls on him when there are sensitive assignments to conduct. This time it is none other than the President who requests Tom's assistance. American troops are killed in a friendly fire incident in Afghanistan but contrary to the information making the rounds, it is believed there may be some mischief afoot especially when the local leader shows signs of divided loyalties. Tom is sent into the Afghan mountains to conduct a special investigation and, if need be, eliminate the threat. Unknown to him, his enemies are making plans of their own along similar lines. Tribal loyalties will be tested in Clark Selby's Dangerous Mission: Book Five.

Dangerous Mission is a fast-paced adventure novel loosely adapted from the Afghan crisis. The principal character comes across as a man for all situations with his solutions-for-every-scenario approach to solving problems. Clark Selby manages to maintain the exciting tempo to the end of the novel. There are certain aspects of the story I found somewhat odd, such as the ease with which Jenny is co-opted into the Agency. This pushed the limits of credibility for me, but every other aspect of the novel fits into the realm of the acceptable. If you're looking for some exciting reading, this book fits the bill with its combination of action and romance. Selby does a wonderful job with this novel.
