Dark Hearts, White City transported me back in time to 1893 and the famous Chicago World's Fair. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla are the big draws to the fair since they have just invented electricity. Many things are happening in Chicago, including people from far and wide coming to visit, but there is a problem in that many of these people are disappearing without any known reason or clues. Detectives Mike McGhan and Henry Bockleman are assigned many of these cases and are working long hours to solve them, putting themselves in danger daily. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show has set up right outside of the fairgrounds, making for even more problems. There is a plot to kidnap and kill Tesla, a crazy doctor killing young girls, and more that Mike and Henry and the other detectives are dealing with every day, facing dangerous situation after dangerous situation that they had no idea was going on. It would be too much of a spoiler to tell you more.

D.N. Bedeker has written an historical suspense story that will keep you entertained from start to finish. Dark Hearts, White City made me feel as though I too was a visitor to the fair, walking along the midway and waiting to ride (for the very first time anywhere) the Ferris wheel. Dark Hearts, White City has it all: mystery, murder, suspense and love. Bedeker wrote a great tale with knowledge and imagination of real events, plus adding the excitement of fictional happenings. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys history with a touch of ‘what ifs’.
