An Arizona retired couple, Paul and Lou Weston, living near the Mexican border, are confronted and chased by men in a black SUV. Then their home is invaded while they hide and watch. They don’t know what is going on but they do know it is not normal. After doing a little sleuthing, they learn the men are smugglers dealing in the trafficking of young girls. Should they fight back or give up the way of life for which they worked so long and hard? They decide to fight back with the help of allies old and new, their friend the local Sheriff and new friends, the Shadow Wolf patrol. When Lou is taken by the traffickers, things come to a head very quickly. And then of course there is the young man and his mysterious blue football.

This book is very well-written with some well-developed characters. It kept my interest from start to finish. The plot is good, with just enough mystery to keep the reader wanting to know what happens next. There is one small but interesting aspect of this book. The author used a first person point of view where a character tells the story; in this instance, Lou. This is good; however, around the middle of the story, as things begin to unfold, the author modifies the first person point of view with each character telling his or her part of the story. This made reading it a little strange and at time a tad confusing. For my particular taste, I liked the main protagonist Lou telling her story in first person. I felt the other characters might have been better portrayed, as more commonly done, in third person. Still, an interesting concept and a good story.
