Doctor Pound: Bedtime Story in Rhyme (Volume 4) by Tatiana Martchenko is a colorful illustrated children’s book of fantasy, animals, and rhymes centering around the continent of Africa. Doctor Pound is an excellent doctor who has animal patients both near and far. He works tirelessly to make sure that the bugs, insects, wolves, bears and other animals of the forest are free from headaches, illnesses, diseases, and injury. One day Doctor Pound is summoned by telegram to go to Africa to help the baby hippos, ostrich chicks and little piglets from toothaches, belly-aches, and sore throats. Will Doctor Pound get there in time before it's too late? How will he get there? Children will embark on an adventure as they see Doctor Pound recite Limpopo as he goes by land, sea, and air to save these babies.
Limpopo, named after the Limpopo River, is a province of South Africa that borders the West and North regions. It is the fifth largest of the nine provinces of South Africa. The word 'Limpopo' means strong gushing waterfalls, and this was what stayed in the forefront of Doctor Pound’s mind as he tirelessly fought to get to Africa. Limpopo was his affirmation, his mantra. Each time Doctor Pound encountered a challenge, he would stretch his arms out wide, and the answers would surface. Children will not only be entertained and enjoy looking at the wonderful illustrations, but they will learn so much from reading this book, particularly about Africa. Enjoy!
