Meet Don Gateau who lived on a hill that overlooked the sea and he called himself the proud cat of Seborga. He was an adventurous cat and roamed through the village with no fear of what would happen to him. He slept in the sun on a hill near the sea and wandered freely and happily. At night Don Gateau explored the alleys and streets and helped himself to scraps of food and treats. He had no one to care for him and was the feral cat of Seborga. One day he climbed to a balcony to see a woman painting and every day he climbed to the balcony to spy on what the artist painted. But Don Gateau missed a beat while leaping from the balcony to the street and had an unfortunate accident. The artist took him to Dr. Alphonso who said he would be fine but would have just three legs instead of four. Don Gateau was unique, he was the three-legged cat of Seborga, and every day he walked to see the artist. Though he knew he did not need the artist, she needed him. He returned to her where he now had a name and a home.

Don Gateau: The Three-Legged Cat of Seborga by Diane Kane is a beautiful story of love, friendship, compassion, tenderness, and acceptance that celebrates all uniquely perfect children. Linda McCluskey's illustrations are enchanting and add to the magic of the story as they breathe life into the plot and the characters. The story will resonate well with cat lovers and also those who love pets. Parents and tutors can use the book for read-aloud and storytelling sessions to help children understand many concepts of life. The rhyming verses give the story a good pace and movement and make it a joyful book to read.
