Du Good: The Journey Begins will teach children to develop confidence and self-esteem. The story is about a small quokka named Du, who used to smile and be happy. However, he began to feel insecure when other kids started to criticize him about his appearance. This situation caused Du to move away from the others and into the forest. There, he finds a book with helpful advice on positive thinking. During his journey, he makes new friends, such as Erinie the elephant, who teaches him to meditate to calm the mind and live in the present moment. He also meets Meek the monkey, who teaches him to find the fun in daily things in life. Vincent Schweit highlights the importance of choosing our thoughts, providing a valuable lesson in self-esteem that children can apply in their lives.
I liked Du Good: The Journey Begins because it teaches children different lessons, such as having dreams and goals, never giving up, and listening to good advice. I liked Du because, despite the difficulties, he found the confidence to make new friends. I also loved his determination because, at first, he doesn't know how to change his mindset, but he strives to be positive. In this way, he learns to make his own decisions. Vincent Schweit uses fun rhymes, facilitating understanding and helping young readers to remember the concepts. His melodic style makes the reading enjoyable. Also, I loved that at the end of each chapter, he added an activity for children to confirm what they have learned and see how to apply it to themselves. The pictures are colorful and show a variety of situations. Du Good: The Journey Begins will encourage young readers to be kind and accept themselves and others.
