When the police force tries to sully the name of a murdered police detective, his CI fights the system to find his actual killer and clear his name in the suspenseful young adult paranormal novel Dying Thoughts: Eighth Ending by Joey Paul. Series protagonist Tara is preparing for AS exams when someone attacks her and her mentor Mike in the police department car park. Mike is seriously injured and taken to ICU in critical condition. When DCI Scors, the detective in charge of the investigation, refuses to take Tara and her gift seriously, Tara is confused. DCI Scors professes to know Mike and the details of how Tara helped him solve cases, but she blows hot and cold about her belief in Tara's gift. Blocking Tara from the case even though she is the only witness, the department arrests the wrong man who vehemently states he is not the attacker. What is going on in the police department? Can Tara discover who is behind the lies and save Mike's reputation and her future?
Brimming with suspense and drama, Dying Thoughts: Eighth Ending by Joey Paul is a heart-stopping crime and suspense novel with a paranormal element. It is another stunning book by author Joey Paul depicting the difficulties associated with trauma-related health issues. It is a brilliant story with remarkable and engaging characters. The traumatic conflicts in Tara's life and the effects they have on her are heartrendingly relatable. Her character genuinely portrays the attitudes and feelings of a traumatized teen. How Tara responds to the adult responsibilities placed on her shoulders reflects her growing maturity. With tear-jerking scenes building to a satisfying conclusion, this extraordinary and poignant young adult novel will appeal to everyone who enjoys stories with a paranormal twist. It is the eighth book in the series and does pretty well as a standalone, but to fully appreciate the characters and their journey, I'd recommend reading the whole series!
