Easter Chicks by Lindsay Derollo is a sweet short story about Easter chicks who have their tiny hearts set on seeing the Easter bunny. As they set out on their way, they begin to imagine the Easter bunny and his fluffy white tail. They pass multicolored speckled eggs, and wonder how many eggs the Easter bunny is carrying in his basket? How many jellybeans? Even as they smell the tulips and admire the lilacs, they stay on track for they must see the Easter bunny, even for a brief moment. Finally, they catch a glimmer of… could those be bunny ears? They realize they must move even faster to get there in time to see the Easter bunny before the children come out to hunt for their eggs, at which point the Easter bunny will disappear with a hop, skip, and jump. Seeing a blur of white ahead, they can only hope that they might be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse. Will they make it in time?
Lindsay Derollo’s children's holiday book, Easter Chicks, will have children rooting for the Easter chicks and hoping they manage to see their hero, the Easter bunny! The book captures many of the chicks’ senses: what the furry yellow chicks see, hear, feel, and smell, in addition to what they are thinking and wondering about, creating an opportunity for children to consider what they would be feeling, thinking, and hoping for in a similar situation. Each page offers another small step in their adventure. Small children will enjoy hearing this story again and again, while parents and caregivers will find pleasure in reading it and discussing the colorful illustrations.
