Even a Pandemic Can't Stop Love and Murder is a work of fiction in the crime and drama subgenres and this first volume is titled Break the Bank. The work is intended for the mature reading audience and was penned by author AES O'Neill, based on real events told to him by his own father. The audiobook format is narrated by Sean Pratt. Chronicling the events leading to and after the robbery of a mob bank, we find ourselves following protagonist Alby O'Brien as he hides from a group of terrorists he believes might be hunting him down. When his simple, quiet existence suddenly becomes anything but, the story explodes into a mad dash thriller-style escapade where danger lurks around every corner.
Author AES O’Neill knows how to produce a detailed tale that still moves at a fast pace, delivering an exciting series of crime events that have a thrilling domino effect and race us toward the overall conclusion of this first volume. The dialogue is snappy and slick, with noir-esque descriptions and dry humor that underpin the gritty crime aspects wonderfully well. In terms of its audiobook quality, narrator Sean Pratt only enhances the slick and smooth feel of the plot with his faultless narration, which is charmingly read and lively when he steps into the dialogue and manner of so many different characters. The editing was also crisp and clear, with excellent timing and pace, for a thoroughly enjoyable experience that made a great book even better. Overall, I would highly recommend Even a Pandemic Can't Stop Love and Murder to crime fiction fans everywhere.
