Everyone’s Happier Than You by James Zerndt is a collection of poems that speaks about a wide range of topics and reveals the author’s observations on them. Written in free verse, the poems are filled with rich imagery, layered emotions, and wonderful metaphors. The poet’s experiences and life are evident in the poems, and they cover a gamut of emotions ranging from happiness, joy, sorrow, pain, and much more which will get readers hooked on the collection and also connect well with the poet’s thoughts and mind set. The poems are insightful and will make readers observe their surroundings in a manner so that they become more aware of the sights, sounds, and happenings around them.
All the poems are engaging and they have a good pace, rhythm and flow without sounding forced. Some of the poems are poignant recollections of life, its limitations, and the poet anchors his memories and yearnings very well through his verses. The thought of fish going ‘People-ing’ brought a smile on my face and ‘The Ocean Took a Vacation’ is very original and inventive. All the poems have their own charm as the little nuggets of detail furnished by the poet give them all a good vibe, making them different from each other. The poet’s visual thoughts and ideas make it easy for readers to see and feel the wonderful lines in the poems. This eclectic collection will touch the hearts of readers with its humor, wit, and reality. The aesthetic way of looking at things and the poet’s wordplay make this a sensitive collection.
